About Jamieson Fly Company
Based on a true story:
Jamieson fly company started while fishing a Golden Stonefly hatch on the Metolius river, OR. I decided if I couldn't buy a more effective and realistic fly I would make one. A couple weeks later with no experience and a few materials from Creekside Fly Company I tied my first fly. It was a Grasshopper. With six fly patterns developed I was given a book contract for 20 flies from Frank Ammato from Fly Fishing and Tying magazine. I wrote the book, then bailed out of the contract because it was a bunch of horse crap. 5% just didn't seam like a good business strategy. I continued to develop the patterns and refine the flies over several years.
It was never about making flies for other people or money. They were just for me (and a few friends). I ended up tying handfuls of flies as trade for fishing gear at my favorite fly-shop. Not a lot and not very often, just when I needed new swag. That was when Jamieson Fly Company was born. Jamieson Fly Company is all done in-house by one person -everything. My fly-tying studio is 10'x10' and spills out into the rest of my place when needed.
All the Patterns are original and built from the ground up based on actual insects. Not based someone else's fly or something tied by a Viking 400 years ago.
If you see something for sale on the site it is to try to make the process simpler. I hate digging around shops and websites for the products I need. I wanted to bring it all in one place so life for you didn't suck.
Best,
-Hugh Jamieson
